Congratulations! You’re pregnant! Now what? You’ll start dreaming and planning for the things that need to be done. And one of those things should be hiring a Spokane birth photographer. Hiring a Spokane birth photographer is a priceless investment you will not regret. Do you want to remember in vidid detail the moment you fell into the purest form of love with your child?
You may not know how to hire a birth photographer, and that is why I am here to share a few tips with you! Searching for and hiring a birth photographer can be intimidating if you do not know what you are looking for. It is important to choose your birth photographer based on style, personality and your comfort level. Also you should feel a connection with your birth photographer. They will be with you during a very personal, intimate moment in your life. Feeling connected will help ease any concerns you may have beforehand with having a “stranger” in your birth space. There should be a level of comfort & trust with those invited into your birth space.
You may want to meet with more than 1 potential birth photographer to see who you “hit it off” with. Interview me and someone else! We each have our own unique styles. One thing I will say though is you should not base your decision solely on price. As in..you get what you pay for. Budget does absolutely play a role for a lot of people! But choosing only because of price may not be in your best interest. Hiring a Spokane birth photographer who is experienced {I have documented almost 40 births}, has shot in many settings including hospitals, birthing centers, and home births, knows their camera inside and out, how to shoot on manual, and adjust for extreme lighting scenarios will show in the quality of images. It is an investment..and one that is worth it.
Ask lots of questions! This is your time to find out the ins and outs of birth photography. Here are some frequently asked questions:
How many births have you shot? I have documented close to 40 births!
How long have you been shooting births? I have had the honor of documenting births for almost 4 years now!
Is birth photography intrusive? NO! As a birth photographer who serves the Spokane, WA and CDA, ID areas I do so with respect for my clients and the staff. I come from a true documentary standpoint of being the “fly on the wall” and watching your story unfold. There are no posed shots, or set up shots. I do not get in the way or get up in your face.
When do you come and how long do you stay? I generally say in active labor, around 6cm and contractions being 4-5 mins apart and consistent. Every birth is unique though and I rely on my clients keeping me informed, up to date and in the loop. Depending on the package you pick, I stay for 1-2 hours after delivery.
What if I am modest? Then that is the perspective I shoot from. I would never take any shots you were not comfortable with. We go over all of this during our initial consultation.
How long after until I receive my images? My contract states images are guaranteed within 6 weeks. And I do send a private, sneak peek image within 72 hours.
Of course there are many more questions I get asked about being a Spokane birth photographer! I would love to chat with you so please do not hesitate to ask me any questions you may have about birth photography!
My work has been featured on such sites as Birth Without Fear and Birth Becomes Her just to name a couple.
