At 41 weeks with her 3rd child, Leila checked into Holy Family Hospital in Spokane, WA. We anticipated a quicker labor and delivery than her previous 2. What she did not anticipate though was an unintended natural birth. We texted back and forth early in her labor. She was resting and asking for book recommendations. A couple of hours later I had a feeling that I should head to the hospital soon. She said things weren’t progressing that quickly but to head on over! When I arrived she was just about to get into the bath tub. Contractions started picking up in timing and intensity. After getting out of the bath tub she asked the nurse to go ahead and call the anesthesiologist to get her epidural started. But here is the twist….before the anesthesiologist could finish, Leila started screaming “He’s coming, He’s coming”. She could feel him moving down, quickly, and knew he wasn’t going to wait. The room erupted into action while a doctor was paged to come deliver her baby. Leila knew she wanted to help deliver her baby, just as she had with her 2nd. The doctor flew into the room and helped catch their baby boy! She reached down, guided him up and placed him on her chest. What a rush! No time for her epidural. It ended being an unintended natural birth. Jack was finally here, safe and sound. After some skin to skin bonding time, their older girls arrived to meet their little brother.
